About Carl Morris

For many years as a small child, everywhere I went, I used to observe other people engaging in ordinary, free-flowing conversations in the silent world in which I lived, without a clue what was being said. And I used to dream of being that person, to be able to stand there and speak - to understand what was being said and to be understood when I spoke. That was not something I could do for many years." So for me, my greatest achievement is just that - to speak, because being able to speak is not a god-given right. It is a skill that has to be learnt."- My life took a devastating turn at the age of three when meningitis left me in a coma, profoundly deaf and unable to communicate in any way. I overcame the obstacles that stood in my way and by the age of twenty-one, I was the champion of the world in my chosen sport. At thirty-one I became the first deaf person to trek to the North Pole on foot. Despite these achievements, it is the underlying message of HOW I came to achieve these, through perseverance, resilience and hope that forms the basis of my speeches in the simple form of incremental steps and how we can all achieve that we set out to do. I believe that the key to my speeches is my ability to connect with the audience both emotionally and mentally through a humble attitude that leaves them feeling inspired.
