About Carmen Mora

Working in MEDSIR's Business Development department is giving the opportunity to learn more and more about the pharmaceutical industry and the whole world behind a clinical trial. The experience gained as a Translational Specialist at MEDSIR and before that as a Scientific project manager and PhD in Molecular Biosciences ‍ has allowed me to know how to work in different environment and places, and more importantly, with different perspectives."Although science has always been my passion, research has given place to another way of enjoying it, now from the side of the pharmaceutical industry and the clinical trials and also from the side of scientific project management". Currently working as a translational specialist in the oncology clinical trials at MEDSIR and previously scientific project manager at the Antiviral Platform of the Interdisciplinary Thematic Platform - Global Health and learning a lot from the public world (now from the management side). Also, as I would like to make the leap to the pharmaceutical industry I have recently started the FLT Academy MBA and I am very excited. ‍ During my PhD and postdoctoral stage I have learned not only to deal with multiple problems, but also to be decisive, to work effectively under pressure and to manage and lead teams. In addition, organisation and time management are two of the main skills I have acquired from this stage. 🤝 In recent years, working with two non-profit organisations has given me the opportunity to bring science and volunteering closer to society. In both of them I have carried out tasks ranging from project management and fundraising to event organisation and scientific dissemination. 🧬 Science dissemination led me to write a book entitled ¿Qué sabemos de.El ADN? for Editorial Catarata CSIC, which deals with the history of DNA and the most current genetic manipulation techniques. I have also been invited as speaker in several conferences and radio interviews in national programmes, achieving remarkable communication skills. The National Biotechnology Centre where I did my PhD also offered me the opportunity to join a theatre group, known as "NOKAUT". After 4 years of being part of this cast of scientific actors, I not only improved my acting and communication skills, but also ended up directing the theatre group and supervising more than 30 people. In my spare time, I enjoy swimming ‍ my favourite sport since I was a little girl. And last summer I begin to climb! 🧗‍
