Background
About Cavyn Smith
According to the Gallup strengths finder, my highest-ranking skill is adaptability, which has helped me succeed in jobs where performing multiple job functions was necessary. This skill has also helped me embrace the challenge of learning something new in order to be competent in different environments. After trying on several hats, I have come to recognize my consistent strengths and passions. I am a language nerd. I enjoy all aspects of communication: grammar, clarity, persuasion, logic, rhetoric, purpose, consistency, and so on. I graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2015 with a BA in English, while simultaneously completing a technical writing certification at the University of North Texas and working as a freelance blogger. I also received a Distinguished Honors Scholar award, the highest given by the Honors College, for completing an undergraduate thesis and completing 15+ hours of honors level coursework. For the next 2 years, I worked as a college writing tutor and high school English teacher, and I am proud to say that any student who sought my help with a scholarship essay received the scholarship for which they applied. After a couple of years in the title industry, I decided to use my grammar skills for project-based work and, subsequently, edited a YA novel for someone I follow on youtube. I was shocked at how unlike work this project seemed, as compared to any of my other jobs. The reason for this, I believe, was that I was engaging innate passion and using skills I had spent years to hone. I was in what Max Lucado refers to as the "sweet spot", the small area on a tennis racket that produces an optimal outcome when the ball makes contact. I am absolutely thrilled to be where I am in my career, with my current employer, and I proud of myself for not giving up on what was a difficult career change. Fun facts: I enjoy playing tune time (I'm an 80's music buff), I'm decent at making balloon animals, and I'm also hugely into self-development. I listen to podcasts regularly, and I try to finish 2 books a month. I am currently reading "Linchpin". Connect with me if you want any recommendations or if you have any for me!
