About Chad P.

Over nearly 30 years, I have gained expertise in problem-solving, leadership, project and programme management, systems-thinking and capability development. More recently, I have gained experience in contributing to advice to the Director-General of Health and senior Ministers, routinely working with officials from The Treasury and the Office of the Minister of Health. Regardless of the role I take on, I am passionate about collaboratively solving complex problems to achieve the best possible outcomes. I have significant experience in leading others and supporting other leaders, to achieve tangible outcomes.I have completed over six years formal training in leadership, problem-solving, management, strategy and policy, systems thinking and a range of STEM fields. I have spent four years in overseas positions, successfully working alongside foreign defence forces, various OGA/NGO and VIPs. Following the Kaikōura earthquake of 2016, I directly contributed to advice to senior officials towards a need for greater focus on resilience in regional infrastructure planning. In 2020, I was directly involved in the response to the COVID-19 pandemic at a national level. In that role, I provided advice to the National Controller on the use of NZDF resources and then became Director of the national isolation operation, reporting to Air Commodore "Digby" Webb and, for a brief period, leading the Regional Isolation Operation in Auckland.In my last role with the NZDF, I was responsible for ensuring that the full range of enablers (such as infrastructure, training, IT and safety) were considered to ensure that Cabinet-approved benefits could be achieved. This included consideration of workforce planning and training, policy and procedures and logistics/whole of life support.Specialties- Excellent written and verbal communication- Sound understanding of the machinery of government- Excellent problem-solving and systems-thinking- Experienced in leading diverse teams and leadership training/development- Deep experience in decision-making and advising decision-makers, in a strategic setting- Capability definition and delivery, including systems engineering, project management and requirements engineering.
