Hello, my name is Cheryn (pronounced Shur-reen). I am a civic engagement specialist with over 15 years’ experience at the community, municipal and provincial government levels. My various professional and lived experience, combined with practice of deep listening, informs my approach in facilitating tough, often nuanced conversations, and designing meaningful and effective engagement processes. My specialties include crisis management, community development, ethnocultural engagement, evaluation, government and stakeholder relations, policy development, project management, and technical communication. Achievements include: Manage engagement program of a major provincial infrastructure project undergoing an Environmental Assessment Process interfacing regulators, technical experts, public and various interested parties on a local and regional scale (Transportation Investment Corporation - current) Province wide implementation of non-medical home supports program to enable seniors to live in place (Better at Home, United Way) Communications lead for the joint City of Vancouver and City of Surrey bid in Infrastructure Canada’s $50M Smart Cities Challenge Engagement advisor and public meetings facilitator on complex major projects such as the Capital Regional District Wastewater Treatment Facility site selection, Northeast False Creek Park, and developments in culturally significant areas in Vancouver (Public Assembly, City of Vancouver) Development of language access policy to enable more equitable and inclusive civic engagement processes (City of Vancouver) Lead City of Vancouver’s first ever community led Participatory Budgeting Project (City of Vancouver) Elected to serve as Vice President of Canadian Union of Public Employees local where I increased member engagement and voter turnout by over 300%(CUPE local 1760)
