About Cheyenne Stringfellow

I attend the University of Miami, with a major in Neuroscience and minor in Chemistry and Sports Medicine. My aspiration is to become a TBI consultant for athletic sports, specifically football. I am passionate about researching cranial effects upon impact, such as concussions, skull fractures, hematoma, CTE, etc. My goal is to advance neurotrauma research and develop innovations that allow athletes to play longer and facilitate them to pursue their passions and goals, with minimal risk. Research interests- Efficient ways to minimize brain damage upon impact, tailoring to different brain areas- Discover earlier warning signs of potential CTE- Developing reliable diagnostic criteria and effective treatment strategies for CTE before death- Examine the exact mechanisms of how the accumulation of tau protein in the form of neurofibrillary tangles can lead to brain damage- Examine how the pattern of tau deposition in CTE can vary between individuals and may be influenced by factors such as the age at which the head trauma occurred, the severity of the trauma, and genetic factors- Utilize and promote increased activation of Protein Phosphatase 2A, the major enzyme in the brain that dephosphorylates tau protein. I utilize my knowledge of neuroscience - as well as my skills in humanities, art, communication, and marketing - to establish a well-rounded and effective work ethic that distinguishes me among my peers.
