About Chloe Cull

I recently completed and defended my MSc. in Biology at Concordia University, and I am now living in Halifax working with CBCL as an Environmental Scientist. In this role, I primarily work to support environmental assessment work for renewable energy projects, focusing on birds and wildlife. My master's research sought to investigate the relationship between human activity and avian nest survival and diversity in urban green spaces. My work was motivated by a strong passion for the living world around me, and I was interested in exploring synergies and tradeoffs between wildlife and human priorities inherent in managing urban ecosystems. Prior to my master's, I obtained a First Class Honours BSc. in Biology with a concentration in marine studies. I had the opportunity to participate in hands-on research, laboratory analyses, literature reviews, and fieldwork in several research assistant positions. Notably, I contributed two publications as a co-author and successfully defended an Honours thesis investigating shifts in the Bay of Fundy flora from historic records to the current day. I have broad experience in many fields of ecology; including avian nest monitoring, macroalgal sampling and identification, vegetation surveys, invasive insect sampling and identification, wood turtle surveying and tracking through radio telemetry, breeding bird point count surveys, and fungal culturing. I plan to continually embrace new experiences, and strive for wildlife conservation and sustainable practices to better the natural world around us.
