About Chloe Matchett

Hello my name is Chloe Matchett. I am an gifted/art educator currently based in Lancaster PA. I am currently working at Cedar Crest Middle School. The last two years I had been substitute teaching. I’ve taken multiple long term assignments as well as day to day in two different districts, Hanover and Hempfield. In my life I take inspiration from the word nurture. The name Chloe means to bloom and grow, as explained to me by my mother. As I aged, this comment stuck with me. The idea of caring for a living thing, nurturing it, and watching it grow is healing. I take these feelings and use them in my way of teaching. People are like plants. They are individualized and grow at their own pace. Each plant needs individualized care to thrive. This is important when working with children. I like to encourage and nudge students towards healthy artistic and personal growth. My philosophy is based upon the foundation of trust, respect, kindness, and identity growth. All of these things are important to help form a well-rounded student. With kindness comes respect, and with respect comes trust, which provides a safe space for identity growth both artistically and personally. From a young age, I have been helping and mentoring youth, through both volunteer work and working positions. As I move forward, I am eager for more opportunity to teach, as well as learn from my experiences. A strength of mine is working well with others. I also enjoy collaborating and including other educational disciplines within my teaching. Along with this I make sure to show the diversity within the art world and include a wide array of mediums within my lesson plans.
