About Christophe Matthys

Christophe Matthys obtained his first degree from the Faculty of Bioscience Engineering, Ghent University, Belgium, a Master of Bioscience Engineering – option Tropical Agriculture (1998). He obtained his second degree from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Ghent University Belgium, a PhD in Medical Sciences (2006). He continued his education by following different national and international courses in statistics, epidemiology, public health nutrition, leadership and technology transfer. Christophe Matthys started as member of the scientific staff at the Department of Public Health of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Science, Ghent University, Belgium, in September 1998 and evolved to assisting academic staff. In July 2007 he became Lecturer in Human Nutrition at the Institute of Food, Nutrition and Human Health, Massey University, New Zealand. In July 2008 he returned back to the Department of Public Health, Ghent University where he worked as post-doctoral researcher Between April 2009 and September 2011 he worked as Senior Scientific Project Manager for ILSI Europe. Since October 2011, he is lecturer in human nutrition at the KU Leuven, Belgium, as member of the academic staff and scientific coordinator of the clinical nutrition unit of the University Hospital Leuven, Belgium. Christophe Matthys has both national and international research experience in the different domains of human nutrition (eg food consumption and nutrition surveys, nutrition policy and public health nutrition, nutritional epidemiology, experimental studies in nutritional epidemiology, food safety). His research experience is reflected in several scientific papers (as (co-)author) and he is a driving force behind various research and education activities. He is an active member of the Belgian Nutrition Society and the European Nutrition Leadership Platform. Since January 2013 he is a member of the scientific comittee of the Belgian Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain
