Background
About Christopher John Hunt
My name is Christopher John Hunt, and I have been working as a clinical psychologist and researcher since 2007. I am currently the Clinic Director at the Macquarie University Psychology Clinic, which provides training to Psychology Masters students in Clinical Psychology, Clinical Neuropsychology, Organisational Psychology and Professional postgraduate programs. Prior to this appointment, I was the Senior Clinical Supervisor at the University of Sydney's GambleAware clinics, which are responsible for co-ordinating government-funded gambling treatment throughout Central, Western and South-Western Sydney, operating out of the University's Brain and Mind Centre.I have gained wide recognition for my work in mental health. I have published work on clinical phenomena observed in gambling clients and on masculinity, been asked to testify before both federal and state parliamentary committees on gambling support, been extensively quoted in local, national and international media, and have written several pieces on both gambling and gender issues for lay audiences. I completed my PhD in 2013 at the University of Sydney in the field of social psychology. My PhD thesis was on the topic of masculinity under the supervision of Dr Karen Gonsalkorale, and involved time spent working at the University of Padua in Italy. I also completed post-doctoral study in Italy at the University of Trieste on gender roles and discrimination against gay men. My work on has also been published in international journals and I have been quoted in the media and written opinion pieces for lay audiences on gender-related topics. Throughout my career, I have displayed a passion for using psychological research and clinical work to educate general audiences and to make changes at policy levels. My work as both a clinical and research supervisor has also led me to develop a keen interest in the education and guidance of the next generation of psychologists and researchers, and how we can work as a profession to enact social change.
