About Christopher Tobin

I have been a History teacher at my current school for nearly 4 years qualifying through the Teach First program and completing my PGDE at UCLs IOE. In that time my practise has been constantly evolving with experience and founded in contemporary understanding of cognitive science, and history specific practitioner research. My teaching and classroom management is rooted in the belief that students and myself should be the best we can be always. By the end of my first year of teaching I was made curriculum lead for R.E despite not being a subject specialist. The role has given me successful experiences of managing targets, deadlines, other staff and students. Within the History department I have led on diversifying the KS3 curriculum and implementing use of new technology. Lastly, I have also committed to the wider school in various ways. My classroom is an open and accepting LGBTQ safe space. I have led CPD sessions for all staff on inclusion for LGBTQ students based on Stonewall and Ofsted guidelines. A personal interest of mine is film. I found talking about film a great way to build positive relationships with students. I therefore created an ‘into film’ club where I show films to students and then have structured debates and activities around them. Lastly this year I have led on the social action project ‘Bite Back 2030’. The club focuses on educating ten students from the school on food inequality and supporting them in developing a school action project to address it whilst linking them with other pupils from schools nationally.
