About Clare Hodkinson

I am passionate about enabling research that creates beneficial change in the ‘real world’ and empowering patients and the public to share their lived experiences. Together, researchers and patients working for a better future.I live with a life-limiting lung condition, pulmonary fibrosis, for which there is no cure. The impact of this illness inspired me to become a research scientist with a purpose to improve the quality of life and care for those affected by chronic disease.I am a trained biomedical scientist, with an interest in the immune system and genetics. I have 12+ years of experience working as a research scientist in clinical and academic settings. I have delivered regional service provision in cytogenetics and as a biobank laboratory and operations manager. I have a strong background in research management and administration, including work in clinical trials, academic global research, and non-profit medical research organisations.I am a patient advocate. I volunteer within my local community, nationally and internationally as a support group committee member and as a lay representative for people affected by pulmonary fibrosis and other lung conditions. I want to see real-world change that brings better lung heath for all. My role as Research Officer at Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis enables me to bring together my lived experience and professional knowledge and skills to help shape pulmonary fibrosis research, with the aim of finding a cure and creating a better future for all.Can you help to address the top research priorities for pulmonary fibrosis?
