About Clark Banack

The Alberta Centre for Sustainable Rural Communities is a joint initiative of the Augustana Campus and the Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences at the University of Alberta. It the only University-based centre in the province dedicated entirely to conducting academic research and community outreach on issues facing rural Alberta. Our Mission is to link the research and educational capacity of the U of A with rural communities, community organizations and policy makers at multiple levels across the province in order to support the improved well-being of rural communities and citizens. We are currently working on projects related to rural economic and community development (especially with respect to the role of co-operatives), rural public opinion and public policy, mental health supports in rural Alberta, and green energy opportunities in rural communities. I am also a political scientist who specializes in Canadian and Provincial Politics and Public Policy, Intergovernmental Relations, Rural-Urban issues, Political Theory, and Religion and Politics. I am the co-editor of "Building Inclusive Communities in Rural Canada"(forthcoming with the University of Alberta Press), the co-author of "Faith, Rights, and Choice: The Politics of Religious Schools in Canada"(forthcoming with the University of Toronto Press), and the author of "God's Province: Evangelical Christianity, Political Thought, and Conservatism in Alberta"(McGill-Queen's University Press, 2016) in addition to a number of academic articles and book chapters on Alberta politics, rural issues, and education policy in Canada.
