Background
About Claudia Silvera
A Continuous Journey in the Skilled Trades My career began in a unique way—out of college, I joined a trade publication company as a layout artist, where I designed magazine covers and pages for various skilled trades industries. This early experience laid the foundation for a rewarding and steady career in marketing communications and public relations. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of stepping into diverse roles that deepened my understanding of business strategy, communication, and relationship-building. However, it wasn’t until I decided to study Project Management at Durham College that I discovered my true passion. I quickly realized that project management transcends industries—it’s about solving business challenges, driving strategies, and delivering results. Whether it’s addressing the labor shortage in the skilled trades or tackling a creative business challenge, I am deeply committed to being part of the solution. My passion lies in taking a project from concept to completion. There’s no greater satisfaction than contributing to a team’s success, knowing I’ve helped improve a process, service, or organizational outcome. As the Apprenticeship Assistant at Durham College, I play a pivotal role in shaping the success of our apprenticeship programs within the Faculty of Skilled Trades & Apprenticeship. In this capacity, I provide academic guidance, coaching, and leadership, ensuring the seamless coordination of all program components. My goal is to foster continuous improvement and, most importantly, to be a dedicated resource for students. I support them throughout their academic journey and employment experiences, equipping them with the skills, tools, and confidence to thrive in their apprenticeship careers. The most rewarding part of my role is hearing from students and employers about the positive impact I’ve had on their journeys. It’s this feedback that fuels my commitment to continuous growth—both for myself and for those I mentor.
