About Cobus du Plessis

Cobus holds a BA degree in Environment and Development, BA Honours degree in Geographical Information Systems and Spatial Planning and a MA degree in Geography and Environmental Studies from the University of Stellenbosch. After university he was involved in several multi-disciplinary projects, where social and environmental sustainability played a key role. With his expertise, he formed part of a core team that help develop a network of self-drive tourism routes from Cape Town to Tanzania, as part of a small to medium enterprise development project in the SADEC region and greater Africa. This project was done in conjunction with the World Bank and other international organisation. He has a keen interest in holistic innovation, engineering and the technical aspects of projects. In this regard he acted as local project manager for the South African unit on the Las Cumbres Global Telescope Network [American] and Solaris [Polish] projects, situated at the South African Astronomical Observatory at Sutherland in the Northern Cape. For the last 8 year he acted as senior manager and researcher for Calore Sustainable Energy to find a more environmentally friendly and economical alternative to fossil fuels by using biomass. He believes in a scientific, holistic and sustainable approach, driving positive change through innovation.
