About Corey Carter

My educational philosophy can be categorized into three crucial areas. Those areas are: practical, inspirational and historical. For me the most practical rationale that drives me to do this kind of work is my belief that education is the best investment of human capital there is. When students and adults achieve greater levels of education then this will both drive our economy and improve our communities. Education, will almost single-handedly, enable our country to capacity build and stay competitive well into the 21st century. The inspirational rationale that drives me is the obvious disparity in the quality of education each student receives in this country. If education was just about teaching and learning then we will be okay, but too many times it comes down to your skin color, address and zip code. This is a recipe for disaster and to make matters worse our country has lost its competitive edge globally. Children of low social economic status and poverty need to be given a fair opportunity. So, as we stray farther and farther from this ideal, the issue not only becomes equality but access as well. The historical rationale that motivates me to be an educator is that some 60 years removed from Brown versus the Board of Education children everywhere are still being denied equal educational opportunities. People long before me have fought hard to see the educational system change only for it to remain the same today. School choice is just as hard now as it was back then! Education reform is a process and not an event, so I believe it will take transformational, craftsman like leaders such as myself to think forward and broadly in order to move our country educationally from competence to excellence.
