About Dakota Anderberg

I am enrolled in Saddle Lake Cree Nation with family roots and ties to Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation from the Bird family. I graduated with a BA with a major in Linguistics and a minor in Japanese Language and Culture in 2021 from the University of British Columbia. My interests in these areas include second language acquisition, syntax, Indigenous language reclamation, language nests, and the intersections of language, identity, and culture. I have experience in working with Indigenous elders, on the spot language transcription, and documentation. During my degree, I worked with was the Skeetchestn band on an eastern dialect of Secwepemctsín (Shuswap). I currently work at The University of British Columbia at the Human Early Learning Partnership; I work on two projects titled "Actualizing Indigenous Data Sovereignty Principles" and "GeoAI for Indigenous Health Equity." In my personal life, I sing in an Indigenous women's hand drum group: Strawberry Spirit Singers, perfect the technical intricacies of boxing, practice footwork for fancy shawl, and study languages on the side.
