About Damien Baker

I'm a determined professional with experience working in the out of hospital emergency care sector in Ireland and the UK. My current role, Group Manager - Paramedic for the London Ambulance Service has allowed for further development as a health care leader within the NHS with an increased insight into the strategic planning within the ambulance service. As part of this role, I maintain my clinical competencies, undertaking frontline ambulance shifts which also affords the opportunity to be a visible leader within the organisation. This role also allows me to contribute to increased patient safety and organisational safety practices on a local level to better improve the working lives of frontline clinicians. I have a keen interest in patient safety and quality improvement. I'm currently undertaking post graduate studies at the University of Nottingham to enhance my understanding of the underpinning theory relating to this with the aim of applying these skills and knowledge in a future role within the out of hospital healthcare sector. My principal interest lies in better understanding problems that exist within healthcare processes by utilising quality improvement methodology. My skillset incorporates experience gained through a Director of a community based Charity role in Ireland where I have coordinated on national projects as well as overseeing corporate governance and strategic planning. I’m extremely passionate towards ensuring that a career within the out of hospital care environment is widely accessible to people from all backgrounds. I actively partake in recruitment panels for prospective students at trust level, always ensuring to provide opportunities for potential and not perfection.
