About Dan Hamilton

I’m a mechanical engineer specialising in fluid mechanics. During my M.Sc. in the early I had the opportunity to work with a fantastic group exploring hydrogen fuel cells—an exciting time to enter a field full of unanswered questions and opportunities to advance the technology.My first career chapter was as a fluid mechanics consultant supporting the oil and gas industry. At Atkins / Kent I worked on the application of classical fluid mechanics and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to a wide range of engineering challenges: process safety, atmospheric flows, flammable gas dispersion and dilution (including ATEX applications), and the hydrodynamics of floating systems.Over more than 15 years I developed both technically and professionally, eventually leading a team of more than 20 engineers and managing several key client relationships.In 2021 I moved into the green energy sector, joining AFC Energy during a period of significant transformation. I initially led the fuel cell services group responsible for testing, simulation, and characterisation. In a fast-moving organisation this quickly expanded into broader contributions supporting the commercialisation of the technology.Today I serve as Chief Engineer and Product Owner for AFC Energy’s fuel cell generators, responsible for engineering delivery across the product lifecycle—from product roadmap and new product introduction through to manufacturing release and lifecycle engineering.Through our joint venture with Speedy Hire (Speedy Hydrogen Solutions), we are opening access to a large addressable market and helping drive meaningful progress toward net zero in the construction sector. I’m proud to play a role in bringing hydrogen fuel cell technology into practical, real-world use.
