About Daniel Oliver

Having completed my biological sciences degree at Durham University, I started training to become a chartered financial planner over the coming years, to help clients meet their financial goals and gain experience in discretionary investment management. Throughout my time at Durham I co-founded and chaired the Durham University F1 society, developing management, communication, and teamworking skills whilst running the society. I also co-founded and presented the Chatting Chicane F1 podcast on Purple Radio, helping me to learn recording and audio editing skills, as well as marketing and publication of the podcast. In my current role I have been working in multiple departments. Operations and admin where I was assisting clients with any queries and communications as well as processing transactions for clients investments. As a trainee adviser I have experienced client meetings with a senior adviser, making notes and assisting the senior with the post meeting processes, as well as gaining experience of helping the client to understand their financial situation using cash flow modelling software and discussing their financial situation. By working with one of the investment managers, I have been able to learn about the process of selecting investment funds for the portfolio, analysing the data of all potential funds and assisting with updating documents and client facing information in line with regular portfolio rebalances. During my training as a financial planner I have also been able to progress through the examinations needed for the Diploma of Financial Planning. Having successfully studied for and passed exams on regulations, ethics, insurance, pensions, tax and investments on first sitting, I am now awaiting the results of my R06 financial planning exam, which is the final exam before achieving my diploma.
