Background
About Daniel Sigmon
Daniel Sigmon is the Director of Worship and Music at New Hope Lutheran Church in Missouri City, Texas (Southwest of Houston). He recently celebrated his 12th year in that capacity, as well as over 25 years in ministry. Music has defined and enriched his life in ways that he never thought possible. During the last 30 years he has been able to accomplish and experience many things, writing: 4 operas, 5 song cycles, a piano concerto, several works for orchestra, ensemble pieces, choral music, and band works as well. Daniel has also written music for the church and arranged much of the Evangelical Lutheran Worship Hymnal to be used with diverse instrumentation. He's had the immense honor and pleasure of hearing his music performed all over the world. He has also been privileged to tour Europe and Mexico as a performer. He is a member of the Texas Choral Directors association and ASCAP. Since 2006, Daniel has also fallen into Aviculture, speaking at conferences around the country about birds and reconciliation ecology and how pet bird keeping may be a way to protect the future of some of the species whose natural ranges are either so depleted or historically small that they will be perpetually endangered. He is a freelance writer for Bird Talk Magazine and BirdChannel.com where he contributes articles about urban parrot populations and endangered and extinct parrots. Daniel considers himself a "Citizen Scientist" who is eager to learn about everything around him, while adding his two cents to the scientific discourse, however valuable or invaluable they may ultimately be deemed. Daniel currently serves as president of the Houston Avicultural Association and is on the Board of Directors of NPRPF Parrot Festival. He is also a member of the Quaker Parakeet Society, the American Federation of Aviculture, the International Conure Association, and the International Parrotlet Society.
