About Daniela Amandolese

I am a designer, researcher, and educator working at the intersection of biodesign, biomaterials, and regenerative futures.I am currently pursuing a National PhD (Dottorato di Interesse Nazionale) focused on co-design practices with living materials, exploring how designers can collaborate with biological systems as active agents in the creative process.My research investigates how emerging and bio-based materials can shape new design processes, rethinking the relationship between humans, materials, and the environment. I am particularly interested in living systems, circularity, and regenerative approaches that challenge conventional production paradigms.With a background from Politecnico di Milano, I bridge academic research and applied design practice. I regularly contribute to international conferences, publications, and workshops on biodesign and the future of materials.I was a S+T+ARTS Resident within the European MUSAE project with Growing Futures: A Mycelium, Robots and Human Ecosystem (Artist/Designer: Daniela Amandolese – SME: Basque Biodesign Center), where I explored the potential of mycelium and living systems in design, investigating hybrid ecosystems between biology, robotics, and human agency.I also collaborate on European innovation and research projects, including with Materially, contributing to the exploration and implementation of sustainable and bio-based materials in design and industry.
