About Danielle Ochieng

I believe that every child deserves the chance to learn how to read and write with dignity, no matter the circumstances they are in. I mean. show them when they are happy and engaged, because that's the impact that matters. With more than half of Kenyan and African children completing primary school unable to read, I founded Watoto Wasome as a grassroots nonprofit, to bring child-centered foundational literacy access to children aged 3-10 in Kenya’s most under-resourced communities. Every week, our team shows up in rescue centers and community schools with joyful, hands-on learning experiences that bring the joy of learning to where children are. We're not just teaching reading; we're sparking a lifelong love for learning and equipping children to thrive in school and in life. I'm passionate about building sustainable, community-led solutions and eager to connect with funders, partners, policy leaders, and education changemakers committed to co-creating meaningful solutions for children who are too often left behind.
