About Darrel Wilson

I’m a Civil Engineer / Construction Site Manager with over 13 years’ experience successfully delivering infrastructure projects across the public, private, and defence sectors. I have co-led the Civil Engineering department for a Civil Service organisation, managing multi-million-pound infrastructure budgets constructing roads, bridges, and mineral extraction. I led internal teams and external contractors through all stages of planning, design, construction management, and contract management. I delivered value for money, spending savings, and a high quality end product whilst developing a great team. My background also includes extensive hands-on experience in site investigation, drilling, plant operations, geophysics, and preparing NEC3/NEC4 short contracts. I currently work as a Site Manager for SPEN Transmissions, overseeing major utility infrastructure projects across Scotland. I’m degree-qualified with a BEng in Civil Engineering, and hold NVQs in Shotfiring & Explosives Storekeeping (Mineral Extractive Industries), Construction Works Supervision, Safety, Health & Environmental Management. Alongside my civilian role, I serve as an Infrastructure Engineer with the Royal Engineers (12 Group, Force Support) as a British Army Reservist. I have been deployed around the world for design and survey tasks supporting UK military infrastructure. I’m a member of the Chartered Institute of Building, Institute of Quarrying and the Institution of Royal Engineers. I currently live in Edinburgh having settled there since 2023, but I am originally from Dumfries and Galloway. Outside of work, I enjoy travel and playing football semi-professionally, including representing the Army national team.
