I work with active duty, veterans, first responders and their families to address PTSD, depression, general anxiety and interpersonal conflict. I have helped many veterans using a selection of methods ranging from private office visits to equine-assisted therapy away from the office. I have worked extensively in suicide intervention/prevention as an Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST) and SafeTALK facilitator. My position requires a current security clearance, extensive case management and consultation. Credentialed Victim Advocate. My life experience includes being a US Navy veteran with flight hours, aerospace engineer, and a full-time single parent of two sons who are in the military. I am a Military Family Life Consultant (MFLC) as well as a United States Marine Corps (USMC) Family Readiness Assistant. I belong to both the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and the American Legion. My approach to therapy is pretty practical and produces positive results. It involves assessment by interview to understand the nature of the situation. Next is education about the problem and how it affects you and your relationships with others. We then explore new coping skills including recognizing what triggers your symptoms and how to accept your thoughts and feelings with a constructive outcome. I have found that when you are able to talk it out that is when the healing begins. I also offer trauma treatment through the use of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing).
