About David Bowles

I grew up listening to my parents, aunts, and uncles telling stories about my ancestors. As a child, I loved to sit on the front porch of my aunt and uncle’s ranch house at the end of the day, eating fresh peaches and listening to the family stories my relatives told. Stories about my ancestors driving cattle up the Chisholm Trail. Stories about my grandfather, the first treasurer of Travis County, being scalped by Indians near Austin. Stories about another ancestor receiving 1240 acres of Trinity River bottom land for serving in the Texas Army during the Texas Revolution—land that is now downtown Dallas. Stories about my great grandmother being the first girl born in Austin. Stories about hardworking folks who struggled to overcome hardships and tragedies. Funny stories, serious stories, inspiring stories.My family history intrigued me so much that I started researching history and genealogy to learn more. Then I had to share what I learned, so I started writing and speaking. Plum Creek Press has published my three-book series, the Westward Sagas, which is historical fiction based on my family stories.From the board room to a riverside campfire, I love to entertain and educate adults, youth, and children with good clean humor and a refreshing cowboy twist. I spin tales to teach and tickle the fancy of the audience, whether I’m speaking to school children, keynoting a professional conference, or entertaining folks at social gatherings.
