About David Johnston

David is an insurance professional with 30 years of experience at the senior management level in insurance claims, product underwriting, development and marketing. With a solid foundation in claims handling, David's insurance experience began with delivering the promise of insurance and working tirelessly to ensure an exceptional customer experience. Progressing into more senior management roles in underwriting, marketing and product development, David successfully lead a number of teams delivering service to internal and external customers. Highlights of David's experience with ICBC included participation on the "panel of experts" at BC Utilities Commission Rate Design oral hearing, leadership of the Personal Product team (included Risk Underwriting & Collector Vehicles), and the Commercial Underwriting department (Fleet & Garage). David has provided confident business team leadership for many projects of large magnitude, across the spectrum from product and coverage design to systems transformation. David provides expert technical support on matters of insurance coverage and policy interpretation. David is a team-builder and mentor, who listens first, and talks later. Knowing that people are an organization's greatest asset, he gives credit where credit is due, and takes great satisfaction in shining the spotlight on high-performers. David is passionate about continuous learning and new environments in which to apply his skills. In addition to his university education (BA Economics), he is a Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter (CPCU), Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP), and holds the Canadian Risk Manager (CRM) designation.
