About Davide Cirillo

I am the Head of the Machine Learning for Biomedical Research Unit at the Life Sciences Department of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC). I received the M.Sc. degree in Pharmaceutical Biotechnology from “La Sapienza” University of Rome, Italy. My master's research on the prediction of immunoglobulin structure was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Anna Tramontano. After that, I joined the Gene Function and Evolution group led by Prof. Gian Gaetano Tartaglia at the Center for Genomic Regulation (CRG) of Barcelona, Spain, to undertake his doctoral studies. My Ph.D. thesis on the prediction of protein and nucleic acid interactions was awarded the Extraordinary Prize of the Doctoral School in Biomedicine from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) of Barcelona, Spain. After my Ph.D, I joined the Computational Biology group at BSC as a Juan de la Cierva postdoctoral researcher under the supervision of Prof. Alfonso Valencia. In 2019, I was awarded a José Castillejo Mobility Grant to undertake an internship at IBM Research Zürich. I am a scientific advisor to the Women’s Brain Project and member of the BSC Bioinfo4Women initiative since 2018. My research focuses on computational methods for precision medicine with a special emphasis on machine learning, network science, and ethics of artificial intelligence.
