Debra is an experienced business leader with a demonstrated history of working in the healthcare, pension, bakery, retail, and insurance industries.Debra was among the first members of the Women's Advancement Initiative/LEAD (Leadership Education and Development) program, which commenced in 2012 during Debra’s first year of college. The Women's Advancement Initiative "is a distinctive program at the University of Hartford that uniquely positions women for success through education and leadership programs, research and scholarship opportunities, and career connections and experiences," which is precisely what the Women's Advancement Initiative did for Debra accomplishments helped her establish Castle of Pastries, Inc, an online bakery headquartered in the Upper East Side, Manhattan, NY. Debra's accomplishments were a golden ticket to working in the government sector, becoming an accounting intern at Connecticut's official health insurance marketplace during Debra’s junior and senior years as an undergraduate. Debra worked as a Loans Processor and then as an Associate Retirement Benefits Examiner in multiple units at the New York City Fire Pension Fund. Debra is now an Associate Retirement Benefits Examiner in the Quality Assurance unit at the New York City Board of Education Retirement System, one of the Administration and Central Offices of the New York City Department of Education.Debra's work experience entailed ample reconciliations, reviews, data collection, and analysis, all supporting her role in the research process for the topic of Debra's doctoral research study.Debra's experience working as an accounting intern at Connecticut's official health insurance marketplace influenced her to conduct research in the healthcare industry; however, it was managerial accounting (sophomore year) and cost management (senior year) that influenced Debra's interest in focusing on the costing systems in hospitals in the U.S. healthcare industry.
