About Declan Hurley

First elected to Cork County Council in June 2009 to represent all members of the community equally, fairly and without discrimination. As a County Councillor, I represent the needs, priorities and aspirations of the people of Cork County by being known within the West Cork electoral division, being accessible and liaising/consulting extensively with local communities, organisations and businesses. I work to seek ways of improving the quality of life for people in Cork County now and for the future by promoting the economic, social and environmental well-being of your local community, having regard to the effects on other communities and the county as a whole. It's important to effectively and regularly communicate and be accountable with constituents and to be accessible to constituents in order that they can raise issues of importance, or personal concern and to take the appropriate action and where possible explore new ideas. To work in partnership with communities and other agencies and campaign actively for measures that will support the County Council's aims. To act as the pivot by which various funding streams can be brought together for the benefit of the community and to liaise with other levels of government, agencies or bodies which influence the well-being of the electoral division. I assist the County Council in its role to promote its desire to improve access to information and services. Attend Council meetings and participate in the business of the Council either as a member of one of the council's committees or as member of any sub committees. Chair working groups and other meetings as required from time to time. Be familiar with the County Council's policies, plans and priorities and liaise with other levels of government, agencies or bodies which influence the development and growth of the County. To undertake other official duties or act as a representative of the County Council.
