About Deepu Wagle

I am the first person from Nepal to become a neurosurgeon in Germany. I left Nepal 20 years ago and now I am a board certified neurosurgeon specializing in Pediatric Neurosurgery with Prof. Dr. Leonard at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, USA. I received my medical degree from Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. In addition, I completed an internship at the Philipps Universität Marburg, a neurosurgical residency and a postgraduate fellowship in Neurocritical Care at Klinikum Kassel with Univ. Prof. Dr. med. Deinsberger. I’m also a member of the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies. What I enjoy most about my new role is the academic setting. I work together with medical students, residents, nurse practitioners and other healthcare providers while acquiring the necessary cutting-edge skills to perform surgeries in our beloved children's and teens. Although I have accomplished all of my targets in life, which started 20 years ago with learning German, getting into medical school, becoming a neurosurgeon, obtaining an accredited fellowship in the USA, etc. my biggest dream remains yet unfulfilled: to establish a pediatric neurosurgical institute of European/American standards in my home country, Nepal, where more than 10 million children and teens live without access to specialised neurosurgical care. I am confident in my journey because I believe in myself and the people around me. As Eleanor Roosevelt said:"the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams" and therefore I am preparing to succeed in this new adventure I have started at the other side of the world!
