About Der-You Kao

As a multidisciplinary scientist and engineer with a passion for quantum technologies, I specialize in bridging theoretical modeling and real-world applications in quantum technology and quantum chemistry. My background spans physics, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering, and I bring hands-on experience in computational chemistry, optical modeling, and advanced programming. Currently, I support NASA’s Habitable Worlds Observatory through coronagraph modeling and optical system simulations. My doctoral research and postdoctoral work focused on using Density Functional Theory to study molecular properties and atmospheric compositions, directly aligning with quantum applications in materials science and spectroscopy. I’ve developed and implemented scientific workflows using Python, Fortran, MATLAB, and C, with a strong foundation in linear algebra, quantum mechanics, and applied physics. I thrive at the intersection of research, coding, and cross-functional collaboration. I'm particularly excited about the future of quantum computing, from building test and evaluation capabilities to delivering scalable quantum applications that redefine industries. I’m excited about opportunities where I can apply my expertise in quantum modeling and computation to help bring quantum technologies out of the lab and into practical use.
