About Devon Thornbury

Hey there, I'm Devon! An enthusiastic recently graduated Masters of Science by research candidate, focusing on forensic genetics through La Trobe University's partnership with the Victoria Police Forensic Services Department. I have an extensive background in biological sciences developed through my Bachelor of Science, also completed at La Trobe University, where I double-majored in genetics and biochemistry. A significant portion of my coursework focused on developing skills and understanding in a wide range of molecular biology techniques, methodology and associated instrumentation through frequent laboratory work in a variety of working environments, including different laboratory set-ups and physical containment certifications, and both individual and collaborative environments. Furthermore, associated skills including statistics, results analysis through bioinformatic and analytic tools, programs and databases, associated administrative tasks (e.g. digital and/or manual detailed record-keeping), and presentation of research as concise seminars and articles to both specialist and general audiences were also developed and honed through my coursework. Having completed my studies, I'm now applying my specialised genetics skills and knowledge to the genetics-focused teams performing forensic services in Victoria as a forensic officer.
