About Devra Levy

I recently left my position as a community organizer at the Childhood Lead Action Project in Providence, RI, after 6 years of working to eliminate childhood lead poisoning through parent support, community education, and grassroots advocacy. I want to take the skills I've built to something new, and I'm interested in exploring community work at libraries, other nonprofit community advocacy organizations, and/or arts and theater organizations. I'm passionate about community health and environmental justice issues, housing justice, and tenants' rights. My priority is supporting the building of collective power and autonomy among historically oppressed communities, including renters, low-income people, and people of color, following the leadership of members of those groups. I believe that a better world is possible, and we can get there through organizing, mutual aid, and working together, compassionately, with our neighbors. I am a member of multiple housing justice organizations, including the Tenant Network of RI, and Direct Action for Rights and Equality's Tenant and Homeowner Association. I also work as a stage manager at various local theater companies in RI, using my passion for community building and working with others to create new visions of the future in a different space. I'm highly organized, always prioritize compassion, and love working with both people and spreadsheets, as well as learning hands-on skills. I received a degree in Public Health and Ethnic Studies from Brown University, and I am originally from Oxford, Ohio.
