About Dillon Hanlon

I am an aspiring PhD candidate in Physics who enjoys learning. My research focuses on understanding the properties and behavior of materials at the atomic and molecular level. Specifically, I use a variety of techniques, including Brillouin Light Scattering Spectroscopy, Molecular Dynamic Simulations, Raman Scattering and characterization of acoustic and optical phonons to study the physical properties of a wide range of materials. I have experience in designing and building experimental setups to study materials under controlled conditions, and have a strong background in data analysis and computational modelling. In addition to my research, I have a passion for teaching and mentoring, and have had the opportunity to work with other graduate students in a laboratory settings. I am a dedicated and hardworking individual with a strong drive to make meaningful contributions to the field of condensed matter physics. Additionally I am an active member of the Canadian Armed Forces, Reserve Force as an Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Officer. In my graduate studies, I’ve taken on various leadership roles such as being an active member of the graduate physics society, as well mentoring high school students, and finally aiding physics lab staff as a teaching assistant.
