About Dimitri Robert

During my years of study as a business engineer at the university, I was particularly interested in how entrepreneurs can make optimal use of technology to enhance their business. As such, I enjoyed experimenting with web development and ERP systems for our student organisation and defended my thesis in statistical methods for fraud detection. I also volunteered in aiding high school students with mathematical courses. I then wanted to direct my career in a sense where I can use my fields of interest to the benefit of society. At the university, I was glad to pass on knowledge and skills to students and simultaneously publish our research findings on machine learning techniques for business applications (which I presented at international conferences). When I moved over to the retail industry, I was mainly responsible for the IT and Data flows from and towards the central product database in order to provide accurate information to the end consumers. Near the end of my contract, I also reported my analyses towards the higher management which they were able to use for decision making in very moving times. My current job at Belgium's railway infrastructure manager allows me to publish parts of our data online on our Open Data website. This way, we are transparent towards the public about our activities, recruitment, punctuality, etc. They are free to use the data for their own further research. Being part of the Strategy department, I can analyse our data to help move the company in new directions and build AI models to its benefit. We also develop dashboards for the CEO and their directors.
