About Donna Rees

When I was a college senior, earning a degree in Elementary Education, my supervising professor approached me with a request: Would I consider assisting him (a paid position) by reviewing, evaluating, and editing documents that were being submitted for inclusion in his upcoming book? I was delighted, he was pleased, and a deal was struck! And that, as the saying goes, is how it all began. I have been editing/proofreading ever since! I have been sharpening my editing/proofreading skills for 36 years, as the owner of Rees Editing Services, as Senior Editor with a dynamic Christian ministry (15 years), and currently as Managing Editor of The Old Schoolhouse Magazine, the nation's premier magazine for homeschooling families I enjoy my role as a "behind the scenes" member of the team as I "clean up" and "polish" an author's work. It is my goal to fine-tune the author's message by removing distractions, adding clarity, and doing everything I know to do to make the message sparkle! Although the majority of my experience has been logged in relation to the tasks of editing, prooreading, and writing, I have also been heavily involved in the layout/design stage of production, offering design suggestions, ensuring consistency in style and standards, reviewing and approving "proofs," and signing off on the finished printed or digital product. Being part of a team is energizing and rewarding; I enjoy serving and encouraging others, as well as learning from them. I'm old enough to have observed the incredible impact of computers upon the the publishing industry within the last 25 years, and I still gasp with awe as I am introduced to newer, even more amazing, digital tools. It's an exciting time to be an editor/designer!
