About Doron Weber
Doron Weber is Vice President and Program Director at the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, where he is the senior manager for a $2 billion Foundation program strategy and a recognized leader and grant-maker with several game-changing programs and innovations in media, science, arts, digital technology and international relations. His success in digital enterprise, backing box office and TV ratings winners and start-ups and scale-ups in technology, media and business has been leveraged by several boards, both corporate and non-profit. A former Rhodes scholar and boxer, Weber is an acclaimed author, most recently Immortal Bird, named one of the 50 Notable Works of Non-Fiction by The Washington Post. At Sloan, Weber runs the program for Public Understanding of Science and Technology, a pioneering, multi-platform initiative to bridge the two cultures of science and humanities. A sponsor of Pulitzer Prize winning books, Emmy-winning television documentaries and Peabody-winning radio shows, Mr. Weber created a nationwide theater and film program honored with Oscars, Tonys and the National Science Foundation Public Service Award. Weber also directs Universal Access to Knowledge and is the lead funder of Wikipedia, the largest encyclopedia in human history and a top ten global web site, and the Digital Public Library of America, numbering over 1600 libraries, archives and cultural institutions. A new program in International Science Engagement focuses on collaborative research projects by scientists and engineers in conflict regions, beginning with South Asia and China and based in Singapore. Weber serves as President of the Board of The Writers Room, Director of Espresso Book Store & Café Holdings, Board Visitor of the Wikimedia Foundation, and Trustee of the Jimmy Wales Foundation. A member of the Council on Foreign Relations and USA Triathlon, Mr. Weber was educated at Brown University, the Sorbonne and Oxford.
