About Edward Clayton

When I was young, every summer my parents would move us for work because year-round employment was scarce on the reserve. We never really felt settled, and as a young boy, making and keeping friends became difficult. That experience shaped me. It gave me a deep understanding of the challenges many Indigenous families face, and it inspired my lifelong commitment to Indigenous economic development. From a young age, I knew I wanted to change this disparity by helping create employment and training opportunities, so that future generations can thrive in their own communities. Today, I bring over 20 years of leadership experience in finance, governance, operations, and Indigenous economic development, with a mission rooted in family and connectedness, integrity and accountability, and growth and empowerment. Career & Governance Highlights: Financial Leadership: Directed accounting teams managing $59M+ in logging, dividend revenues, and program expenditures over 5 years. Economic Development: Accessed funding and led operations for a pilot mill start-up, generating $500K+ in revenue. Employment & Training: Secured and managed millions in employment and training funds, creating opportunities for Indigenous learners and workers. Multi-Entity Management: Oversaw operations of five village companies simultaneously, demonstrating cross-functional leadership and governance. Entrepreneurship: Spearheaded the launch of a driving school start-up, combining proposal writing, business planning, and training delivery. Governance & Oversight: Served as a Director with Nisga’a Growth Corporation, and currently as Director with Nations Royalty, contributing to finance/audit committees, strategic planning, and policy development at the board level.
