About Emerald Barbour

A recent arrival to Boston from St. Louis, MO, mezzo-soprano Emerald Barbour is an emerging artist in the realm of vocal music. She made her professional opera debut with Union Avenue Opera in the chorus of The Mikado, as an alumna of their Crescendo program in 2016. Her recent opera highlights include the roles of the Third Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte and Hänsel in Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel in the Boston Conservatory at Berklee’s Opera Scenes. This April, Emerald will sing the role of Dorabella in Mozart’s Così fan tutte with Lowell House Opera, as well as Barcarolle in The Bremen Town Musicians at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. This month, Emerald took part in The Bach Institute, an intensive program dedicated to the study and performance of J.S. Bach’s cantatas and arias. Her love of this repertoire began with the Bach Society of St. Louis as a Principal Singer, and then as the mezzo-soprano Young Artist for their 2017-18 season. Emerald was a semifinalist in the 2016 Classical Singer Vocal Competition, and a recipient of the Buder Foundation Scholarship and Peggy Fossett Endowed Music Scholarships at Webster University. Emerald is currently pursuing a Master of Music in Voice Performance at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee, where she studies privately with soprano Kendra Colton.
