Background

About Emily Green

I am a Teaching, Learning and Assessment Manager with a PGCE (distinction), and a Masters degree in Creative Writing - both from Cardiff University. In my TLA role, I support managers and teaching staff across all of our campuses with developing their practice, run in-house CPD and training, carry out developmental observations, support with Quality Improvement Plans, and fly the flag for wider skills and behaviour progression. I am a staff mentor, and teach on our Teacher Training qualifications. Prior to my management position, I was a Lecturer of English. I am also a Microsoft Innovative Educator (certified March 2020). My strengths include engaging learners who have existing barriers to learning, and I was the specialist English teacher at Weston College's dedicated autism provision between 2018-2021. I am an active writer, and I have recently written a chapter for an academic textbook - Clever Girls: Autoethnographies of Class, Gender and Ethnicity (discussed on BBC Woman’s Hour and reviewed by Booker Prize Winner Bernadine Evaristo). Clever Girls won the Jake Ryan and Charles Sackrey Award for a Book about the Working-Class Academic Experience from the 2020 Working-Class Studies Association Awards for work produced in 2019. Clever Girls is published by Palgrave Macmillan, and available to purchase from Waterstones/Foyles/Barnes and Noble from January 2020. I completed a Masters degree in Creative Writing (2016), also at Cardiff University, where I achieved a distinction for my dissertation. Prior to my study at Masters level, I graduated with a First Class Honours BA (hons) degree in English and Creative Writing, and my dissertation focused on exploring mental health and bereavement through creative writing. I achieved a distinction for my dissertation, and was later presented with a letter of commendation from the Dean of Education for the high standard of my work. I am particularly interested in creative non-fiction through the short story form, and experiment with structure and voice in my writing. My short story, It's Not AnghaRUD, It's AnghaRAD, was shortlisted for the Robin Reeves Prize for Young Writers, 2015, and has been published in their anthology (Parthian Books). My short story, Bricks, was also shortlisted for the Terry Hetherington Prize 2017, and was published in the anthology Cheval 10 (Parthian Books). My short stories and flash fiction have also appeared in literary magazines and online, including the debut issue of Halo Lit Mag.
