About Emily Milner-Smith

After graduating, I spent a month volunteering with NatureScot on an NNR, and gained experience with Trees for Life and the John Muir Trust. In 2024 I graduated from Sustainable Development (Geography) with a first class Hons. My dissertation covered discourses about nature in Scotland, focusing on conceptualisation of nature in a landscape that has been shaped by human activity; why nature is valued; and how it is subsequently managed. I spent my third year living in Germany and studying at the sustainability oriented Leuphana University. During university, I spent a year on committee for Just Love - a student society that raises awareness of social and environmental justice issues with a view to engaging students with local charities. In 2019, I volunteered with the Isle of Eigg Heritage Trust before working at the award-winning Highland Chocolatier for four months then traveling in New Zealand. Since 2018, I have been developing leadership skills through leading at residential activity camps with Scripture Union Scotland.
