About Emma Johnson

I'm a PhD researcher with expertise in circular business model design and innovation. Over the past 5 years, I’ve focused on understanding the strategic pathways that established companies take to catalyze a transition to sustainable and circular business models. I try to combine my personal values and vision for a zero-waste, low-carbon, and slow-consumption society into my research and enjoy co-creating knowledge between industry and academia by working with companies that also have this vision and can help transform institutional structures. I also teach about circularity and life-cycle assessment in a few courses– Sustainability and Value Creation, Sustainability Solutions in Context, and Applied Research in the Environmental Management and Policy Master's program, as well as professionals in the online course of Circular Economy: Managing Materials Sustainably at Lund University. I enjoy - Visualizing and communicating complex data to broader audiences (e.g. communicating how life-cycle assessment (LCA) results can be interpreted to change business model design and consumer habits)- Developing creative & impactful initiatives (e.g. designing workshops to educate and practice the effects of yoga and mindfulness on handling the stress of sustainability challenges); and - Facilitating collaborative processes (e.g. organizing and managing team and client relationships for sustainable solutions). Outside of strategic sustainability-oriented work, I teach yoga in Malmö as an internationally-certified and registered yoga teacher. I also like to throw/create ceramics and enjoy winter bathing!
