Background

About Eric Chen

Dr Chen is a senior environmental geochemist and water quality modeller with over 15 years’ experience in the mining and environmental sectors. His expertise is underpinned by a strong academic foundation and a proven track record in leading high-impact projects, including the geochemical characterisation of mine materials (waste rock and tailings), acid and metalliferous drainage (AMD) assessment and remediation, development of conceptual source–pathway–receptor (SPR) models, hydrogeochemical modelling for water quality prediction, mine closure and rehabilitation studies, environmental impact statements, and contaminated site investigations including acid sulfate soil (ASS) management.Proficient in advanced modelling tools such as PHREEQC, MINTEQ and Geochemist’s Workbench (GWB), Dr Chen specialises in building integrated models to simulate chemical and physical processes and to predict the transport and transformation of chemical species and contaminants within aquatic systems. These models and investigations provide a robust technical basis for regulatory approvals, mine closure planning, and sustainability-driven decision-making.Beyond geochemistry, Eric is expanding his expertise into Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) frameworks, particularly in the context of mining and water management. He is deepening his knowledge of ESG principles and regulatory frameworks to support sustainable resource development.Eric thrives in multidisciplinary enviornment, collaborating to solve complex environmental challenges with science-based, practical solutions for the resources sector.
