About Eric Sze

Eric Sze received his Bachelor in environmental science from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). In he completed his Ph.D. in Chemistry at the same university. Recently in 2015, Dr. Sze obtained his M.Sc. with distinction in Applied Toxicology at the University of Surrey, United Kingdom. After his Ph.D. graduation, Dr. Sze served as technical managements in various testing laboratories in the areas of environmental and consumer products (including foods) for more than 10 years, and was a Senior Accreditation Officer at the Hong Kong Accreditation Service (HKAS) of the Government of HKSAR. He is familiar with the management systems for laboratories (ISO/IEC 17025), certification bodies (ISO/IEC 17021 and ISO/IEC 17065), inspection bodies (ISO/IEC 17020), quality management system (ISO 9001), food safety management system (ISO etc. In the summer of 2013, Dr. Sze joined the School of Science and Technology of the Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) as an Assistant Professor in the Testing and Certification Programme, while maintaining an Adjunct Faculty appointment at the Department of Chemistry, CUHK. As a mass spectrometist, analytical chemist and toxicologist, Dr. Sze’s research interests lie in the application of different mass spectrometric and analytical techniques to identify biomarkers in toxin-contaminated species, and to authenticate different Chinese Material Medica and seafood products. Currently, Dr. Sze currently serves as a committee member of the Master of Science programme in Accreditation Chemistry, CUHK, and was the external examiner of the Higher Diploma programme in Analytical Science (Testing and Certification), the Hong Kong Vocational Training Council, from 2011 – 2013. He is also a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) and British Toxicology Society (BTS).
