About Eric Vandenburg

I graduated from the University of British Columbia in 2020 with a B.Sc.(Hons.). I am currently based out of Melbourne, Australia, where I am pursuing a PhD in geological sciences at Monash University, with a specialization in isotopic and trace element geochemistry and igneous petrology. As part of my PhD, I study the relationships between Paleo-Neoarchean komatiite-basalt successions, sanukitoid intrusions and TTG suites in the Pilbara, Yilgarn and Kaapvaal cratons using trace-element geochemistry and recently-developed radiogenic and stable isotopic analytical techniques. My current research aims to better understand the geochemical evolution and dynamics of the early Earth’s mantle, build progress towards a unified Archean tectonic model, and provide further constraints on the isotopic compositions of terrestrial reservoirs. Some of my other research interests include the formation of orthomagmatic Ni-Cu-PGE-Cr deposits, the petrogenesis of ultramafic-mafic intrusive and volcanic systems, mantle plume magmatism, the geochemical characteristics of layered intrusions, and planetary geology.
