In the last 28 years of law enforcement, I have had the privilege of serving in various roles throughout my career to include DWI task force, Tactical Response Unit (TRU), Street Crimes Assistance Team (SCAT), Field Training Officer. With this experience, it lead me to the development/ founding officer of the San Antonio Police Department Mental Health Unit in 2008. I am the primary subject in the two time Emmy nominated award winning HBO documentary, Ernie and Joe: Crisis Cops. Emmy winner for best editing. I’ve had the privilege of being featured on ABC’s Nightline with Byron Pitts and NBC documentary, A Different Kind of Force. I co-authored Amazon's Best Seller, Mental Health and De-escalation, A Training Guide for Police Professionals. Additionally, I'm a contributing author to the Amazon best-selling Mental Health category book, Police Mental Barricade. I co-authored 101 Questions to Ask Before Becoming a Law Enforcement Officer to help those choosing a career as a first responder.
