About Evangeline Markou

Evangeline Markou studied History and Archaeology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1993-1997) and obtained her M.Phil (2001) and Ph.D. in History and Civilisation of the Antiquity (2006) from the University Sorbonne - Paris IV with a postgraduate fellowship from the A.G. Leventis Foundation. She worked at the Fitzwilliam Museum of Cambridge (2004-2005) and at the Numismatic Museum of Athens (2005-2007) as responsible for the documentation and digitalization of numismatic collections and she taught Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses on Ancient Numismatics in the University of Cyprus as an Adjunct Lecturer (2008-2009) and of Ancient History in the Open University of Cyprus (2008-2012; 2014-2016) as coordinator of the course of Ancient Greek and Byzantine History (2009-2012) and as coordinator on a course on ancient numismatics and epigraphy (2014-2016). She Collaborated as Adjunct Academic Staff in the Hellenic Open University, Studies in Greek Civilisation (2017-2018) and since 2014 she is coordinating and teaching courses on Ancient Cyprus and Numismatics in the Postgraduate Course of University of Aegean, Department of Mediterranean Studies, “Archaeology of the Eastern Mediterranean: Greece, Egypt and the Near East” (2014-2018). In October 2009 E. Markou was appointed Assistant Researcher at the Institute of Historical Research (IHR), Section of Greek and Roman Antiquity (SGRA) of the National Hellenic Research Foundation (NHRF) as a member of the Hellenic East Programme. In July 2013 she became Associate Researcher in the same Department and between 2014-2015 she was the scientific coordinator of the research project: “The Silver Coinage of the Kings of Cyprus: Numismatics and History in the Archaic and Classical Periods (6th to 4th centuries BC)” (acronym SilCoinCy)” funded by the Action ARISTEIA II. Since July 2017, she is a Senior Researcher in SGRA/IHR, focusing her research on the history and numismatics of Ancient Cyprus.
