About F. Javier Moreno
I developed my PhD degree in Spain at IFI (CSIC) complemented with a pre-doctoral stay at France (INRA) on dairy O-glycoproteins and O-glycopeptides, using chromatographic and electrophoretic techniques for their identification and characterization. My post-doctoral research experience at the IFR (BBSRC, UK) allowed me to investigate the nature and properties of allergenic proteins, in particular about allergen purification, characterization, and structural determination using spectroscopic techniques. I also gained experience of proteomic techniques to characterize the allergens and their derived proteolysis products. My main research line is the enzymatic synthesis of new bioactive oligosaccharides of food and pharmaceutical interest, as well as the development of new analytical methods for their purification and structural characterization. I am co-author of more than 100 peer-reviewed research articles published in international journals included in the Science Citation Index (Food Science & Technology, Analytical Chemistry, Nutrition or Biotechnology fields) and I have been the principal investigator of 18 research projects financed by either public or private funds. I am co-author of 3 technological patents related to the synthesis and determination of the beneficial properties of different bioactive oligosaccharides with the ability to selectively modulate the intestinal microbiota. I have experience in risk assessment working in the past as a member of the Working Group organized by European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) to develop “Supplementary guidelines for the allergenicity assessment of genetically modified (GM) plants” and I am a current member of the EFSA Working Group “GMO Applications Food-Feed” and GMO Panel. I have also been a member for the activity developed by ILSI Europe entitled “Understand the relationship between the molecular structure and the effects of prebiotic compounds on microbiota and its metabolites” (Prebiotics Task Force).
