Background

About Fiona Scorgie

I am a social anthropologist with over 20 years' experience in health research in southern and East Africa. I have worked on topics as diverse as climate change adaptation, sexual and reproductive health in adolescent girls and young women, HIV prevention, maternal health and poverty, vaccine acceptance, sex work, urban health, and menstrual hygiene and sanitation. My key skills are in ethnographic and qualitative methodologies, academic and technical writing, as well as in teaching and mentorship. I have led grant-writing for the social science components of large, multidisciplinary projects, with high success rates among top global funders, including EU-Horizons and Wellcome Trust. Open to work in academic, applied research or NGO spaces, particularly on themes of social justice and the social determinants of health.
